Oak Village – Oakville, Iowa

Located in Southeastern Iowa is the small community of Oakville where, in the summer of 2008, the Mighty Mississippi River unearthed a prehistoric village from the years between 300 to 400 AD. The flooding was devastating to the community but the wonders of the life that had been there so many years before is truly a wonderful archeological find.

The Oak Village site is in excellent condition so the artifacts that are there are a great way to study the culture and history of those from days gone by.

There are a few other sites in Illinois and one just 10 miles north of Oakville that are from the same time period, but this one is in a condition that will afford the removal of nearly 200,000 artifacts.
